How to access version history
Open the note on desktop.
Find the section you want to review.
Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of that section.
Select Version History.
A window will open showing every version of that section, newest first. The active version is labeled Current.
What creates a new version
A new version is saved automatically whenever the section content changes through:
Regenerating the note
Magic Edit
Manual edits you make and save
If none of those have happened, you'll see "No previous versions."
What you can do with a previous version
Each previous version has two options:
Copy Text β copies that version's content to your clipboard so you can paste it elsewhere without changing the current note.
Restore β brings that version back as the active one.
When you restore, the current version isn't deleted. It's saved as a new entry in the history, and the version you restored becomes the new Current. Nothing is ever lost, and you can always go back again.
How long are versions kept
Versions are kept indefinitely. There's no time limit and no cap on how many versions a section can have.
Limitations
There are two situations where version history is wiped and starts fresh:
Switching templates. If you change the note's template, all previous versions are deleted and can't be recovered.
Editing a custom template, then regenerating. If you edit a custom template and then regenerate a note that was using it, the version history for that note resets.
If you want to preserve a version before doing either of these, use Copy Text first and paste it somewhere safe.
A few things worth knowing
Version history is per section, not per note. Each section has its own independent history.
The feature is desktop only. If you're on mobile and need to access version history, switch to a desktop browser.
Version history doesn't apply across different notes. It only tracks changes within the same note.
